Molecular Insights into the Centaurea Calocephala Complex (Compositae) from the Balkans—Does Phylogeny Match Systematics?

چکیده

Groups of recent speciation are characterized by high levels introgression and gene flow, which often confounds delimitation species on a DNA basis. We analyzed nuclear sequences (ETS spacer the AGT1 gene) obtained from large sample C. calocephala complex Balkan clade Centaurea sect. Acrocentron (Compositae, Cardueae-Centaureinae) together with wide representation other section. Our main goals were to verify monophyly as currently defined examine possible presence flow. Within complex, well-delimited morphological point view probably originated allopatric in Peninsula. results confirm that Balkan–Eurasian is natural group, but shows very complicated pattern its phylogeny not resolved. hypothesis suggests altitudinal shifts transits glacial interglacial periods caused successive hybridization events, evident networks, between taxa sympatric. As result, confirmation interspecific boundaries using molecular markers extremely complicated.

Artemisia Systematics and Phylogeny: Cytogenetic and Molecular Insights

The genus Artemisia (Asteraceae, Anthemideae, Artemisiinae) is a large genus, one of the largest genera in its family. It is comprised of about 500 taxa at the specific or subspecific level, distributed in 5 sections or subgenera. Most species are perennial and many are landscape dominants of arid or semiarid regions. Artemisia is widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere but poorly represe...

Phytopythium: molecular phylogeny and systematics

The genus Phytopythium (Peronosporales) has been described, but a complete circumscription has not yet been presented. In the present paper we provide molecular-based evidence that members of Pythium clade K as described by Lévesque & de Cock (2004) belong to Phytopythium. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian phylogenetic analysis of the nuclear ribosomal DNA (LSU and SSU) and mitochondrial DNA cyto...

New insights into the phylogeny, systematics and DNA barcoding of Nemertea

Although some clades of ribbon worms (phylum Nemertea) are consistently recovered with high support in molecular phylogenies, the placement and inter-relationships of some taxa have proven problematic. Herein, we performed molecular phylogenetic analyses aimed at resolving these recalcitrant splits, using six loci (nuclear 18S rRNA, 28S rRNA, histones H3 and H4, and mitochondrial 16S rRNA and C...

Systematics of Isocarpha (Compositae: Eupatorieae)

Isocarpha comprises five species ranging from southern Texas and the Bahamas to northern Peru and northeastern Brazil. The genus belongs in Eupatorieae rather than Heliantheae, but structure of the head of Isocarpha with its elongate, chaffy receptacle is anomalous within Eupatorieae. An hypothesis is presented suggesting the evolutionary derivation of this type of head through formation of flo...
